Quota Brisbane members to continue to partner with the National Council of Women of Queensland (NCWQ) to offer a Bursary in honour Dr Laurel Macintosh OBE. Laurel was also a life member of the National Council of Women of Australia (NCWA) and NCWQ. The Bursary offered for the first time in 2024 will be offered again to a female student of Ophthalmology in 2025. The Bursary application process will open on 14th April via the NCWQ website and close early in June. The Quota Brisbane Delegates Margaret Vallance and Sandy Smith will work with the Bursary Coordinator to consider the applications.
For the first time this year, the applications will be processed on a Zealous Platform which will enable applicants to upload their applications and Team Bursary to view and score them. A presentation event is planned for 19th July at the Women’s College when the successful applicant will be presented with a $2000 Bursary to assist with their professional development.
It will be one of many Bursaries offered to female students. Last year thirty-five Bursaries were presented. Preparations for the 2025 round are underway. Some Bursaries are yet to be finalised. The NCWQ Bursary Program empowers female students to complete their studies. The ultimate goals are to promote economic independence of women and to celebrate women’s achievements. NCWQ coordinates the Bursary Process. Sponsors from all levels of Government, Affiliate Organisations and individual members contribute to the Bursaries. Quota Brisbane is one of thirty women’s organisations currently affiliated with NCWQ.
