The Quota Brisbane/NCWQ Bursary was awarded for the first time in 2024 to Dr Shiney Seo who is one of six women studying Ophthalmology at the moment in Queensland. There were three applications received for the inaugural bursary which is in honour of past honorary life member Dr Laurel Macintosh who was  an Ophthalmologist, a Quotarian and Past President of the National Council of Queensland. Laurel  was a trail blazer in her time who also lead the National Council of Women of Australia (NCWA). She was referred to as a ‘Respectable Radical’ in a book published by the NCWA of the same name quotes Laurel a number of times.

Dr Shiney Seo joined the Quota Club of Brisbane President Shirley Leuthner and Margaret Vallance at the NCWQ President Sandy Smith’s table for lunch after the presentation of the Bursary on 20th July. Dr Seo is looking forward to attending a Conference on Ophthalmology in November.
