It was all hands on deck for the Quota Brisbane Bunnings BBQ fundraiser early in February. Members called on friends and family to help with the sausage sizzle. Funds raised go towards the support of children who have hearing loss.
The day started early with Robyn Porter who coordinates the fundraising aiming to be there for a 7 a.m. start which is much earlier than previous fundraisers. Robyn had us all organised with a roster working four hour shifts. The day was longer too finishing at 4 p.m. rather than 3 p.m. The sales were up and the longer day saw us raise enough to provide a Phonak Soundfield Amplification System.
We usually find the community is happy to support us and at times people are generous, donating their change to a good cause. We welcome people asking, “What we are raising money for?” and “Who is Quota Brisbane?”
Since Bunnings at Newstead started we have had fundraisers there. The BBQ is set up under cover and there is often a breeze coming through the breezeway leading to the car park. It is situated at the ground level beside the lifts. Bunnings staff make regular visits to see how we are going. Staff often line up in the cue to order a sausage on bread or a cold drink. Often we find they come back for seconds, they enjoy them so much.
We try very hard to keep the orders going out and cues down. We enjoy partnering with schools and welcome support by parents and staff when we are raising money to support their students. On occasion Jim Russell from the Hear Room supports us by cooking the sausages. He reports the price of the Phonak System is going up so we are pleased to be able to raise enough to make the purchase before the price rise.
