At the National Council of Women of Queensland (NCWQ) Bursary Presentations Event on 19th July 2025 President Caroline presented the Bursary in partnership with NCWQ President Sandy Smith to Dr Ye Li. Dr Li plans to use the $2000 to participate in professional development by attending a Conference later in the year. The Bursary is in honour of past Quota Brisbane President Dr Laurel Macintosh OBE who also served at the President of NCWQ and the National Council of Women of Australia. She was an honorary life member of both NCWQ and the Quota Club of Brisbane. Laurel is remembered fondly. She leaves behind a legacy of standing up for working women and advocating for late night shopping. She worked with Fred Hollows and at Narbethong Special School which caters for students with vision disabilities.
The Bursary Presentation Event was held at the Women’s College, University of Queensland in the Playhouse followed by afternoon tea. Over a hundred people attended for the presentation of thirty-eight bursaries. 2024 saw the bursary in honour of Laurel presented for the first time to a student of Ophthalmology. Dr Ye Li who is in her final year is a worthy recipient of the award. Congratulations Dr Ye Li and to all the 2025 Recipients.
President Caroline Cox made the presentation on behalf of both Quota Brisbane and NCWQ. Also attending the presentation was Past President Margaret Vallance who is one of the delegates for Quota Brisbane who is affiliated with NCWQ.
